Dr. Bull (1933)

BACKGROUND

Doctor Bull was Ford’s first collaboration with the wildly successful comedian and political commentator Will Rogers. Even in 1933 Ford was nostalgic for a time when the neurotic social climbing attitudes of the urban elite had not yet taken root in rural communities. The fictional New Winton Ct. of the film exists on the cusp between two eras with Dr. Bull seemingly stranded in the middle.

PLOT SUMMARY

An overworked and under-appreciated country doctor faces; hypochondriacs, gossiping neighbors, a typhoid epidemic and political challenges, all while doing his best to help a paralyzed young man walk again.
